Leonide Feodorovitch Miassin (Massine) was born in Moscow in 1896. His mother, Eugenia, was a soprano in the Bolshoi Theatre chorus, and his father, Feodor, played French horn in the Bolshoi Theatre orchestra. Ballerina Marjorie Tallchief (b. Oct. 19, 1926, Denver, CO) grew up in Fairfax, OK and Los Angeles, CA and is a member of the Osage Nation. She trained under Bronislava Nijinska and David Lichine and was the first Native American to be "première danseuse étoile" of the Paris Opera Ballet.
